Good Morning, Everybody,
Somehow we’ve been able to cross into 2021 from the ruins of 2020. Although this New Year has certainly also had a bumpy start, the Staten Island Giving Circle is determined to infuse new energy, enthusiasm and assistance to our own community endeavors.

First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those families who continue to be lambasted by sad news due to the pandemic. It really has hit very close to home for almost all of us.

Last Monday (January 4) our monthly Executive Committee meeting was held via zoom. Decided there, was to reinstate guest speakers into our regular, all members’ monthly zoom meetings. Be sure to tune in next Wednesday evening (Jan. 20, 7:00 p.m.) to listen to Sharmila Thakkar of the Staten Island Not For Profit Association. We hope to introduce speakers to discuss some of the difficulties COVID is presenting (food, mental health issues, community service outreach). We want to stay current and informed.

Stop and Shop notified that SIGC will benefit $1/purchased shopping bag for the month of February.
SIGC contributed $100 (Random Act of Kindness) to South Shore Rotary’s newly-launched Go Fund Me to feed Staten Island. Food scarcity will be the SSR’s mission for this New Year.

Michele is navigating the Weekend Food Backpack Program deftly despite the difficulties that the pandemic created.
Both our Literacy and S.T.E.A.M. after-school zoom sessions have begun their “second semester”. We have a strong group of educators under the supervision of Literacy Inc. ladies driving this highly desirable and successful project.

Last, we have had two inquiries for students to organize Junior Giving Circles in their schools. Information is being shared and we’ll keep you posted on progress.

STAY WELL AND WE’LL SEE YOU NEXT WEDNESDAY FOR OUR JANUARY 2021 ZOOM MEETING!
